About Jennie Szaltis

Watercolorist Jennie Szaltis followed her calling as an artist from Columbus,
Mississippi where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mississippi
University for Women , to Pensacola where she worked in Interior design, her
major field of study at MUW. While in Pensacola, she met and married her
husband, Ray.
Her journey led her to Jacksonville, Florida where she further developed her
talent with course work in visual arts at Jacksonville University, and began to
sell her work in local galleries.
From 1994—2007 she and her husband owned “Studios”, a Visual Arts School
in the Lakewood area of Jacksonville where she taught watercolor and
drawing. Jennie can also be found traveling the southeast doing watercolor
workshops.
When asked about her paintings, she comments, “It’s important to me that the
audience be involved in my paintings with their senses and imagination. I
enjoy painting landscapes and figures, but I seem to consistently be fascinated
by flowers.”
Her process varies from that of a traditional watercolorist. While Jennie enjoys
painting on paper, it would not be uncommon to find her applying her
watercolors to canvas or even shedding and weaving them. From time to time,
she might venture into oils and mixed medium.
Jennie’s aspirations include hanging her artwork in more galleries. “I am able
to be more prolific now, and ready to return to my life as a gallery artist”, she
says. “It is important to me to continue enlightening and educating the general
public. Art should not be so intimidating.” Her personal theme which she used
for her art school reflects her attitude, “Art is important. Art is FUN.”.
